Students across Northeast Ohio are about to head back to the classroom for the start of a brand-new year. And that means teachers here are also preparing to welcome them back.

One of the things students, their parents and teachers do to prepare for school is to buy supplies. And oftentimes, teachers pitch in their own money to ensure that some of their students whose parents have trouble making ends meet still have the supplies they need to succeed.

Donors Choose is a crowdfunding website where teachers can post their projects or supply lists and a dollar amount, and ask for the public's donations to help fund them. It vets every project that gets posted individually, to ensure integrity.

On Thursday only, Donors Choose says that Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft, will be matching every donation on the site with an additional 50%. That means if you donate $10, Gates will chip in another $5, making the total donation $15.

In the Cleveland Metropolitan School District alone, there are 232 projects, ranging from basic supply lists, to essential gym equipment, to books and even a storage bench.
