Elderly pedestrian, dog killed in car crash in Wooster

A 77-year-old woman and her dog were struck and killed while attempting to cross a street in Wooster Thursday afternoon.

CLEVELAND — A 77-year-old female Wooster resident and her dog were killed after being struck by a car while in a crosswalk Thursday afternoon.

At 3:19 p.m. on December 26, 2019, Wooster Police Department officers were dispatched to the intersection of Melrose Drive and Wildwood Drive, where they found a white Mazda CX-3 driven by a 52-year-old male was travelling southbound when it struck the elderly woman and her pet.

The woman entered the intersection of Melrose and Wildwood drives while trying to cross Melrose Drive, where she was struck by the Mazda CX-3.

The pedestrian was transported to Wooster Community Hospital by members of the Wooster Fire Department, but she succumbed to her injuries.

The drive of the Mazda CX-3 was said to have “no visible injuries” from the crash.

According to a press release from the Wooster Police Department, the Ohio State Highway Patrol crash reconstruction team was contacted and responded to the scene. The crash is the subject of an ongoing investigation.
