Harriet Tubman biopic to hit theaters this fall; Watch the trailer here

For decades, the stories of Harriet Tubman’s courageous missions from the enslaved south to the free north have been told repeatedly. 

However, this fall, her story will be told on a much larger screen.

On Tuesday, Focus Features released the first trailer for the Harriet Tubman biopic, Harriet. The film follows Tubman's journey from enslavement to American hero. 

"Her courage, ingenuity, and tenacity freed hundreds of slaves and changed the course of history," said Focus Features. 

The film stars British actress, Cynthia Ervio as Harriet Tubman. Evrio is most notably known for her role as Celie in the 2015 Broadway adaptation of The Color Purple

In an Instagram post, Erivo detailed just how dedicated she was to the role and how important is was to get the film right because "it deserved nothing less." 

The film also features supporting appearances from Janelle Monae, Leslie Odom Jr. and Joe Alwyn.

Harriet is directed by Eve's Bayou's  Kasi Lemmons with a screenplay by Lemmons and Gregory Allen Howard of Ali

The film is scheduled to hit theaters November 1, 2019. Watch the full trailer below.
