Cuyahoga County schools recommended to close during duration of the stay-at-home advisory

The announcement was made in a joint press briefing between Cleveland Mayor, Frank Jackson, and Cuyahoga County Executive, Armond Budish.

CUYAHOGA COUNTY, Ohio — During Wednesday afternoon's joint press conference between the City of Cleveland and the Cuyahoga County Department of Health, Cleveland Mayor, Frank Jackson, and Cuyahoga County Executive, Armond Budish, outlined the details of a new stay-at-home advisory.

The advisory, which takes effect immediately and goes through December 17, urges all residents to stay inside in an effort to stop the rampant spread of COVID-19 within the county.

In addition to churches and businesses being advised to close their to the public and have their employees work from home, the advisory specifically mentions Cuyahoga County schools.

"Universities and public and private K-12 schools that are currently implementing a hybrid or full in-person protocol are advised to transition to online remote learning after the Thanksgiving holiday," the stay-at-home advisory reads.

The recommendations come as Cuyahoga County-- as well as the state of Ohio-- continue to see an exponential rise in COVID-19 cases.

In Northeast Ohio alone, hundreds of students have had to quarantine due to exposure, or possible exposure, to the Coronavirus since the start of the school year.

Over the weekend, Cuyahoga County was unable to report the latest COVID-19 numbers due to an "unprecedented" rise in cases. Recent projections from Case Western Reserve University's Coronavirus case model say that based on the current rise, the county could see an estimated 1,000-2,000 new cases a day during a new peak.
