The Cleveland Clinic is urging everybody to get vaccinated against COVID-19 – including booster shots – despite the recent downward trend in cases.

“This virus has shown us time and again that it's unpredictable and while we should enjoy this time, we should not assume the pandemic is over,” a Cleveland Clinic official tells 3News. “We do expect additional waves of infections, so it's best to gain protection now rather than when another surge comes.”

Those who are most vulnerable – immunocompromised patients and adults ages 65 and older – are also being asked to get their booster as soon as possible.

“Currently, less than 30 percent of Ohioans are boosted. Studies have shown that the COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective, and that receiving a booster dose of the vaccine provides stronger protection from severe illness, hospitalization and death than receiving two doses.”

The Cleveland Clinic also notes that about one-third of seniors aged 65+ have not yet gotten a booster nationally.
