CVS MinuteClinic offering vaccines amid Hepatitis A outbreak

The vaccine can help prevent the disease if its given within two weeks after exposure.

CVS MinuteClinic locations statewide are offering Hepatitis A vaccines to those who need one.

All 64 Ohio MinuteClinic locations will have the vaccine available.

Earlier this week, the Ohio Dept. of Health declared a statewide community outbreak of Hepatitis A as the number of cases reported this year has nearly doubled since last year.

The vaccine can help prevent the disease if its given within two weeks after exposure. Those who have already been vaccinated do not need it again.

Local health departments have also received more than 5,000 doses of vaccine from the Ohio Dept. of Health.

So far, Ohio is reporting 79 cases associated with the outbreak this year. The outbreak is also impacting neighboring states.

Hepatitis A is a liver disease that can be spread by ingesting food or water contaminated by feces or through sexual contact.
