Giant inflatable colon is centerpiece of 'The Walk to End Colon Cancer' event in Cleveland

The Walk to End Colon Cancer takes place this Sunday at the Flats at East Bank. We have all the details on how to register.

CLEVELAND — If you've ever wanted the chance to walk through a giant inflatable colon, this is it.  There's no better way to raise awareness and get the discussion started either.

Colorectal cancer is the third leading cause of cancer among men and women in the U.S. and the American Cancer Society says there will be more than 150,000 cases diagnosed this year and nearly fifty thousand will die.  Many of them under the age of 50 because colon cancer among the young is on the rise.

Dr. David Liska is a colorectal surgeon at Cleveland Clinic and advises those without a family history to schedule a colonoscopy at age 45.  Those with a family risk need to talk to their doctor about getting one earlier.

This Sunday, Cleveland Clinic and the Colorectal Cancer Alliance will hold The Walk to End Colon Cancer at the Flats at East Bank. Click here to register and learn more.

By the way, the giant colon also shows you what colon cancer, polyps and other intestinal issues actually look like.  It's worth "passing" through.
