New Cleveland Clinic Lakewood Family Center set to open this weekend

Community members can visit the new facility on Saturday, June 30 from 1 to 5 p.m.

The new and improved Cleveland Clinic Lakewood Family Health Center is set to open for business this weekend.

You may remember the long and contentious battle over the hospital three years ago when the Cleveland Clinic announced its closing.

The center unveiled the facility for the first time Thursday night.

WKYC’s Monica Robins took a first look inside.

Originally opening in 1907, Lakewood Hospital served residents at the from its old facility for more than a century.

The new state of the art facility will transform the healthcare industry in the community.

Orchestrators are hoping the new glass building housing the best technology will help to heal the wounds of the old facility closing.

The $34-million center will begin taking patients July 11.

1st floor: Emergency Room

2nd floor: Family Medicine

3rd floor: LGBT Center & Specialists, including geriatrics, cardiology, and psychiatry for children and adults.

Community members can visit the new facility, Saturday,June 30 from 1 to 5 p.m.

The city will eventually demolish the old building, but there is an effort to have some type of community farewell.

Demolition won't likely happen until Fall 2018.
