1 dead after two-vehicle crash in Erie County

Craig R. Griffith, 63, of Massillon died as a result of his injuries sustained during the crash.

ERIE COUNTY, OHIO, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that took place on State Route (SR) 99 at the Harris Road intersection in Groton Township, Erie County.

The crash took place on Monday, October 24, at approximately 2:49 p.m.

Joseph R. Lenke, 39, of Oak Harbor was driving a Mack Granite truck northbound on SR 99 when he struck a Honda Accord driven by Craig R. Griffith, 63, of Massillon.

Craig Griffith had failed to yield to a posted stop sign at the Harris Road and SR 99 intersection. He suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash.

Lenke did not sustain any injuries as a result of the crash.

Both Lenke and Griffith were wearing their seatbelts.

Drugs and/or alcohol are not believed to be a factor. The crash remains under investigation by the OSHP.
