Akron firefighters respond to large blaze at vacant Ace Rubber Products building

The department does not believe there are any toxic chemicals inside the abandoned three-story structure and no injuries have been reported.

AKRON, Ohio — Firefighters in Akron responded Wednesday night to a large blaze in the Cascade Valley neighborhood.

Officials tell 3News the fire broke out inside the abandoned Ace Rubber Products building on Beech Street. The department does not believe there are any toxic chemicals inside the three-story structure, which is completely engulfed in flames.

No injuries have been reported, and the building is not near any homes or businesses. Five different fire companies responded to the incident, which was "under control" as of 11:30 p.m. Crews will remain in the area throughout the overnight hours.

A number of roads in the area were closed, but some have since reopened, per our reporters on the scene. Stay with WKYC for updates on this story as it continues to develop.
