AKRON, Ohio — An Akron police officer is listed in serious condition in the hospital after being struck while on his motorcycle.

Police say the officer was driving along Portage Path when he was struck by a Toyota Sienna minivan traveling on Bloomfield Ave. that failed to stop at a stop sign. The officer became pinned underneath the vehicle for a time.

The officer, a 23-year veteran, was taken to Akron General Hospital and is said to be in serious condition. He was apparently alert upon arrival.

The suspect in this incident has been identified as 65-year-old Corrie M. Sharpe, of West Exchange St. Sharpe allegedly blew a .125 on a breathalyzer test (the legal limit is .08), and her 11-year-old granddaughter was also in the van. Neither were injured.
