Akron launches new electric buses

AKRON, Ohio — A big change is coming to Akron roadways.

The city of Akron has a new transit option for those who take public transportation. The Akron METRO Regional Transit Authority is launching its first ever electric buses on their fleet.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was set for Tuesday morning at the Robert K. Pfaff Transit Center -- which is located at 631 S. Broadway Street in Akron -- to showcase tours of the new electric busses, a vendor fair and refreshments.

Those attending the ribbon-cutting ceremony include: 

  • Members of the METRO Board of Trustees
  • Board President Robert DeJournett 
  • Vice President Mark Derrig
  • Summit County Executive Ilene Shapriro
  • Baberton Mayer Bill Judge
  • Cuyahoga Falls Mayor Don Walters
