The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office conducted an autopsy on the female victim, identifying her as 43-year-old Heidi Moon of Akron. The cause of death was ruled as a gunshot wound to the neck.

An initial investigation found that the female victim arrived at the home on Edwin Avenue to retrieve property and, as the woman was leaving, the male produced a gun and shot her. It is then believed that the man turned the gun on himself. Police were able to recover a handgun at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation by detectives with the Akron Police Department.
