AKRON, Ohio — A 42-year-old man was taken to the hospital Thursday night after Akron police say he was hurt when an unknown suspect fired multiple shots into a house in the 1300 block of Newton Street.

Upon their arrival at the scene around 7:30 p.m., police say the victim was found with an apparent gunshot wound to the shoulder area. Police administered first aid until EMS arrived and took the victim to a nearby hospital where police say he’s “believed to be in stable condition.”

Here is how the Akron Police Department explains details surrounding the incident:

While the exact circumstances surrounding the incident are unknown, it appears that an unknown suspect fired multiple shots into the house, striking the victim, who was reportedly lying down at the time. There were numerous occupants inside the home at the time of the shooting who were uninjured.

Officers located and recovered shell casings in a nearby church parking lot.

Incidents like these are unsettling, but the members of the Akron Police Department have an unwavering commitment to enhancing public safety. While detectives are responsible for solving this case, we, again, ask the community to lend a supportive hand.

Only together can we create a stronger and safer Akron.
