Man dies in shooting after confronting robbery suspects at Akron apartments

Authorities say the victim was found by a security guard near the pool area of Springhill Apartments.

AKRON, Ohio -- A 27-year-old man is dead following a shooting on Everton Drive in Akron.

Authorities say it was around 5 p.m. Tuesday when a security guard found the victim on the ground in the pool area of Springhill Apartments and attempted first aid.

When emergency crews responded to the scene, the man was unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds.

He was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:38 p.m.

Police say the victim's girlfriend, who lives in the apartments, reported that two men entered her residence with handguns before taking cash and fleeing on foot.

The victim chased the suspects from the apartment building when he was shot multiple times, police say.

His name has not yet been released.

22-year-old Christian Pittman of Akron has been charged with murder in connection with the crime. He was questioned by police and arrested after arriving at Mercy Medical Center in Canton with a gunshot wound to his buttocks.

Detectives are working to identify another man and woman who were possibly involved with the incident.

Both the Summit County Medical Examiner's Office and Akron Police Department are investigating.
