Akron police: Woman struck, killed on I-76 after stopping to remove table from roadway

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has not been released.

AKRON, Ohio — A 58-year-old woman has died after Akron police say she was struck by a vehicle on I-76 West at exit 18 (US 224).

Akron police say it was around 9:34 a.m. Sunday when the woman was driving along the interstate and came upon a wooden table in the roadway. She then stopped and exited her vehicle to remove it from the road when police say she was struck by a Honda Civic moments later, which was driven by a 23-year-old man.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has not been released.

The Honda driver sustained minor injuries. Police said alcohol and speed are not factors in the incident.

No additional details were immediately available.
