Amish child struck by van in Ashtabula County

WINDSOR TWP., Ohio - An Amish child has been flown to Cleveland by medical helicopter after being struck by a van in Ashtabula County on Monday.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the victim was walking to school with two other children along State Route 534, when one of them ran into the road near South Windsor Road at around 8:30 a.m.

WFMJ reports at first the boy wasn't moving, but witnesses say he started to breathe.

The victim, whose name or age hasn't been released, was taken by ambulance to Geauga Airport then flown to University Hospitals Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital in Cleveland.

The van was still on the scene when troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol arrived.

The investigation is underway.
