Women’s History Profile: Bebe Michelle, hair care entrepreneur

Chasing a dream and growing it daily.

CLEVELAND — During Women’s History Month, 3News is highlighting women who are changing the game.

Bebe Michelle is a woman who decided to stop straightening her hair and grow her naturally curly hair as it grows from her head. She fell in love with the process so much, that she switched career tracks, enrolled in cosmetology school and now owns her own salon.

She faced uphill battles and push back from other women saying not everyone can wear natural hair.

“I’m like, no! One, we’re all beautiful just the way we’re naturally made. And then two, all you need are the right tools, the right products, with the right ingredients and I was like that could be me,” says Michelle.

Through working with clients with various hair textures she found her calling helping women learn how to make their waves, curls, and kinks look their best. She also took her love of hair to another level by creating her own hair care line! Bebe had to work long hours, some days more than 15 hours a day as a one-woman business doing everything from making the product to shipping to customer service to social media marketing. She says her passion for the industry fuels her to continue chasing her dream. Though Bebe Michelle focuses on hair, she says her passion is education.

“That’s (the hairstyle) you want to achieve? Then this is what we’re going to do. And these are the products we’re going to use to get that, and not just throwing the products at them like ‘Okay here you go bye’, it’s more, let me show you how to use these products and exactly what to do,” says Michelle.

Her big dreams don’t stop there!

In addition to growing her salon business, Bebe Michelle plans to expand her product offerings, educational opportunities and more.

The reason 3News is highlighting Bebe Michelle is to show that sometimes,  you have to create what you want to see in the world and put in a lot of sweat equity to bring that dream to life.
