INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Zoo celebrated a special birthday Thursday.
Charly the orangutan just turned 30 years old.
The zookeepers threw a a big party to celebrate, complete with decorations, wrapped gifts and lots of treats.
Happy Birthday, Charly!
Charly's home, the Simon Skjodt International Orangutan Center at the zoo, is standing out nationally. The center was nominated for the USA Today's "Best Zoo Exhibit" competition. Winners will be announced March 13.
The Orangutan Center is home to one of the largest groups of orangutans at a zoo. It serves as a hub for studying cognitive abilities among great apes.
