Northwest Ohio family's Christmas home video goes viral

Shawn and Donovan Nichols received a Super Nintendo on Christmas morning 1991. The homemade video capturing the excitement now has over 2M views on Facebook.

SYLVANIA, Ohio — In 1991, Shawn and Donovan Nichols were 13 and 10 at their home in Sylvania. That Christmas they received a Super Nintendo, the newest game system of the year. As they opened their gifts, their mother was rolling a camera, and now the footage of that moment is going viral.

"Did I get the wrong one?" Sandy Nichols asked her son Shawn on the video, as he unwrapped a Super Nintendo game.

"We don't have a Super Nintendo," Shawn said.

"That'll fit in your game, won't it?" Shawn's dad Tom Nichols asked.

"No," Shawn Nichols replied.

"Well go try! Maybe it will!"

Shawn and Donovan Nichols are seen running out of the living room, dodging the stove in the kitchen, and then speeding downstairs when they see their brand-new Super Nintendo.

The brothers start jumping up and down, screaming and waving their hands in joy.

"Oh my Gosh! Good one, dad! Wow! I don't believe it!" Both boys ran and hugged their parents.

"There's a lot of things we don't remember in life, but this one was so magical that I absolutely remember it," Donovan Nicholas told WTOL 11 Saturday night. He said he and his brother played the Nintendo for hours.

Over two million people on Facebook have viewed the video. nearly 500,000 views on TikToK and over 500,000 views on YouTube.

"People that were in like Scotland and read it and said how much it meant to them. That was really neat," said Tom Nichols.

"I can't thank my parents enough for everything they've done for our entire family," said Donovan Nichols. "They're just incredible people and so special."
