$1 million bond set for man accused of shooting Cleveland police officer

The officer is recovering after surgery.

CLEVELAND -- Bond was set at $1 million for the man accused of shooting a Cleveland police officer over the weekend.

Jonathan A. Chambers, 30, was arraigned in Cleveland Municipal Court Monday on attempted murder charges.

Chambers was arrested after he allegedly shot a Cleveland police officer several times Saturday morning in the Buckeye-Shaker neighborhood.

Officers were called to the scene at E. 121st Street and Cromwell Avenue on a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, Chambers allegedly began shooting at them with an assault rifle.

One officer, who has been identified as 28-year-old Shane McNea, was shot in both legs. He underwent surgery at University Hospitals Medical Center, where officials say he remains in good condition.

Chambers has a lengthy criminal history, including charges for domestic violence filed in August, though that case was dismissed last week.
