1 suspect in custody after pursuit leads to SWAT situation in Cleveland

One suspect is in custody, another "remains under investigation."

CLEVELAND -- SWAT teams cleared a home on the city's east side where a pursuit suspect was believed to have been hiding Friday.

Cleveland police confirmed to WKYC's Andrew Horansky that the Use of Deadly Force Investigation Team was called to the scene on Schenely Avenue.

WKYC streamed live from the scene:

The incident started as a pursuit Friday morning when Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle at E. 152nd Street and Waterloo Road. The vehicle fled and crashed near the intersection of Lakeshore Boulevard and Hiller Avenue.

The vehicle's two occupants fled on foot and one was suspected to have entered a nearby home. That home was cleared by SWAT teams and the suspect "remains under investigation," Cleveland Heights Police Chief Annette Mecklenburg said during a news conference.

The other suspect was taken into custody. Police have not identified him.

Police also say one shot was fired by a Cleveland Heights police officer, but no one was struck. Several jurisdictions were involved in the incident.

A nearby resident said he was told to leave his home and heard gunshots from his backyard.
