CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Clinic has received a large gift from a local couple, the hospital system announced in a press release Tuesday.

Richard C. Fedorovich, a Cleveland Clinic board member, and his wife, Lisa, have committed $5 million to Cleveland Clinic and Akron General.

The donation is to support "future priorities and innovations" for Cleveland Clinic's leaders, the release said.

“Rick Fedorovich’s leadership as Akron General board chairman helped bring Akron General and Cleveland Clinic together in 2015,” said Tom Mihaljevic, M.D., Cleveland Clinic CEO and President and the holder of the Morton L. Mandel CEO Chair.  “As a result of this successful integration, we’ve been able to serve more patients in northeast Ohio and develop Akron General as one of the region’s top hospitals.”

Cleveland Clinic’s investment in Akron General included a new emergency department, which opened in 2018. U.S. News & World Report ranks Akron General as the No. 7 hospital in the state, and No. 1 in the Akron metropolitan area, the press release said.

Because of their generous gift, Cleveland Clinic Akron General’s emergency building will be named in the Fedoroviches' honor. Additionally, on the Cleveland campus, the Cole Eye Institute Chairman’s Suite Sitting Room will be named in their honor.

“It has been rewarding to see Akron General expand services and become a leader in quality and safety since joining Cleveland Clinic,” Fedorovich said. “With this donation, Lisa and I hope to support both Cleveland Clinic and Akron General in caring for patients in northeast Ohio for years to come.”

Rick serves on the Board of Trustees of Cleveland Clinic and the Akron General Health System Board of Directors, of which he was Chairman from 2003 to 2010.

Lisa serves on the Board of Trustees of Hathaway Brown School. She graduated from Case Western Reserve University School of Law.
