City announces suspensions for officials after Cleveland Hopkins Airport security breach

The incident happened in October.
City of Cleveland

CLEVELAND -- The city of Cleveland on Wednesday announced disciplinary measures for employees who were involved in a security breach incident at Cleveland Hopkins Airport last month.

Assistant Director of Port Control Fred Szabo was suspended 10 days without pay while Chief of Operations Darnell Brown was suspended five days without pay.

Szabo and Brown were previously suspended with pay pending the outcome of the city's investigation into the matter, which occurred in October.

Channel 3 News learned that Brown had passed through a TSA checkpoint but forgot something in his car, which was parked in an airport lot. Szabo reportedly met Brown at the checkpoint and escorted him to his car, allowing Brown to bypass the checkpoint on his return with the unidentified item not being screened by airport security.

It's not known what Brown had carried on to the plane.
