Cleveland Browns Stadium to host WWE SummerSlam in August

SummerSlam is heading back to Cleveland for the first time since 1996. The city will also host WWE Friday Night Smackdown on Aug. 2.

CLEVELAND — SummerSlam is coming to Cleveland this August!

The WWE, in conjunction with the Haslam Sports Group and the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission, has announced that Cleveland Browns Stadium will host WWE SummerSlam on Saturday, Aug. 3. 

In addition to SummerSlam, the WWE plans to "take over the city of Cleveland with a stacked schedule throughout the week." Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse will host Friday Night Smackdown on Aug. 2, with fan and community events planned for the days leading up to and following SummerSlam.

“We are thrilled for the opportunity to host WWE this August, as it further strengthens Cleveland's growing reputation as a premier city to host major events in the U.S.,” said David Gilbert, President and CEO of Greater Cleveland Sports Commission. “This year’s SummerSlam is expected to be the largest WWE event ever hosted in Ohio and will bring significant economic impact to our community as it highlights Cleveland’s vibrant downtown, authentic experiences and exciting attractions."

SummerSlam is returning to Cleveland for the first time in nearly 30 years. The city last hosted the event in 1996. The WWE notes that several of its biggest stars call Cleveland home, including The Miz, Logan Paul and Johnny Gargano.

“The city of Cleveland and WWE have a rich history that spans decades,” said WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque. “We are excited to bring SummerSlam, SmackDown and a full slate of events to town in partnership with Haslam Sports Group and the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission.”
