In "Grease," Newton-John played Sandy Olsson, the Australian teen who was reunited at Rydell High School with her summer fling Danny Zuko, played by John Travolta. The role in the 1978 classic launched Newton-John to super-stardom.

Already a successful singer, her solo hit from "Grease," "Hopelessly Devoted To You" earned Newton-John a Grammy nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Her duet with Travolta, "You're the One That I Want," reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in America.

"My dearest Olivia, you made all of our lives so much better," Travolta wrote in memory of Newton-John. "Your impact was incredible. I love you so much. We will see you down the road and we will all be together again. Yours from the first moment I saw you and forever! Your Danny, your John!"
