Cleveland Police recruits caught up in cheating scandal

15 police recruits are caught up in an internal investigation into whether they committed plagiarism during training.

Cleveland — More than a dozen Cleveland Police Department recruits are accused of cheating during training.

Police sources confirm 15 recruits are caught up in an internal investigation into whether they committed plagiarism during training.

It all stems from irregularities in notebooks that recruits are required to keep. During the review process, some of the instructors noticed possible plagiarism.

As of 7:00 p.m. Friday, Cleveland Police Spokesperson Jennifer Ciaccia tells Channel 3 News none of the 15 have resigned.

Police sources say all 15 are asking for disciplinary hearings, and will be referred to the safety director.

This is especially significant because the Cleveland Police Department is trying to hire 150 more officers by the end of the year.

A Cleveland Police Union representative says the recruits could get those hearings as soon as Monday.
