CLEVELAND β Earlier this month, Kid Cudi announced plans to bring his second annual Moon Man's Landing music festival to Cleveland's Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse on Aug. 19.
As it turns out, however, the show won't go on as planned.
Taking to Twitter on Tuesday night, the Grammy-winning rapper announced that he's canceling this summer's show in his hometown. Cudi -- real name Scott Mescudi -- explained that his decision to cancel the show came as the result of backlash from the show being held at an indoor venue.
"I know u [sic] guys wanted an outdoor festival, and so did I, but the city wouldn't approve it," Cudi wrote. "And instead of cancelling the whole thing I decided to have it at the arena because I still wanted to bring something cool to the city, but I know u guys werent feelin it."
Cudi went on to explain that he planned to bring the festival back to an outdoor venue in 2024 -- although he said it may need to take place at an unspecified location more than an hour outside of Cleveland.
"I saw some people say they dont mid the drive if I did make it out of the city, so let me know ur feedback yall!" he wrote. "I doubt the city will approve anything in the city, but Moon Man's Landing is not dead! And we will find a better place for u all to have an epic time at. Promise."
Shortly after Cudi made his announcement, Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb took to Twitter to respond, telling the "Pursuit of Happiness" rapper to contact him. On Wednesday morning, Bibb tweeted that the city "never received a permit application" for the concert and stated that he is hoping to talk to Cudi in hopes of bringing the show to Cleveland this summer.
Cudi later followed up, revealing that he and Bibb did, in fact, speak and that the two are working toward a solution.
"Just had a great call w @MayorBibb about the festival, Stay tuned," he wrote. "Workin fast to find a solution to still do it this year! Thanx Justin for making yourself available brother."
The city of Cleveland later reached out to 3News confirming the conversation between the mayor and Kid Cudi, adding that both sides were "collaborating and look forward to finding a solution that hopefully still brings the festival here this year." However, they also denied denying any event permits "because we never received a permit application (so there was nothing for us to approve, or disapprove for that matter)."
The original Moon Man's Landing festival took place last September in Cleveland's West Bank Flats. In addition to Cudi, this year's show was scheduled to feature the following artists:
- $uicideboy$
- Bashfortheworld
- Chelsea Pastel
- Coi Leray
- Kid Cudi
- Lil Uzi Vert
- Siena Bella
