CLEVELAND — One person is dead and two others injured following a crash on I-77 northbound in Cleveland early Wednesday morning.
According to police, the 32-year-old male driver of a green Saturn Relay minivan was traveling fast near Pershing Ave. around 6 a.m. when he lost control and struck a guardrail off the right side before rear-ending a disabled Mack dump truck. A 31-year-old pregnant woman and a 1-year-old child were also in the van.
All three van occupants were taken to MetroHealth Medical Center. The driver died from his injuries, while the exact conditions of the woman and toddler are unknown at this time. The driver of the dump truck was not hurt.
The crash delayed traffic on the highway for hours, with EMS and fire crews all on scene. The incident remains under investigation.
