Midges return to Northeast Ohio

Those pesky little gnats have made their way back to the shores of Lake Erie.

It's summer in Cleveland.

That means baseball at Progressive Field, parties at Edgewater Beach and... midges everywhere you look.

Those pesky little gnats have made their way back to the shores of Lake Erie, meaning you'll be seeing them on your car, house, patio furniture and your hair.

Midges are harmless and can typically be found near ponds, streams or lakes, especially in the evening, according to Encyclopedia Britannica.

Though they're an unsightly nuisance, they're an important food source to local fish.

And don't confuse them with mayflies -- those guys will be here soon enough.
