World-famous photographer Spencer Tunick returned to Cleveland on Sunday to host a nude photo shoot.

Tunick is known for taking photos of large groups of people posing nude in public places.

Although more than 1,800 women signed up for the event, only 100 women were selected to participate, according to Tunick's website.

The photo shoot, which was meant to make a political statement, took place one day before the Republican National Convention kicks off downtown.

Tunick's website reads:

"The photograph involved 100 nude women holding large mirror discs, reflecting the knowledge and wisdom of progressive women and the concept of “Mother Nature” into and onto the convention center, cityscape and horizon of Cleveland."

"Republicans, Democrats and all other political parties were welcome to take part reflecting their anger through art against the hateful repressive rhetoric of many in the Republican Party towards women and minorities."
