CLEVELAND — Police are still searching for a suspect after a 91-year-old man suffered severe injuries after being hit in his front yard by a speeding car.
Neighbors say drivers speed on the street often.
"It's 25 miles per hour," explained a neighbor who didn't want to be identified. "You see them coming down here going 50, 60, they just be flying."
Police say the incident happened around 3 p.m. Monday. The man was working the front yard of his house in the 3700 block of E. 144th St.
Suddenly, a gray, four-door, 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix going south on E. 144 Street at high speed went off the right side of the road. The car clipped a tree, then struck the victim before hitting his house.
"He's really nice, everybody in the neighborhood loves him," a neighbor said. "I'm really sorry and I really hope he's OK."
A witness observed a male driver and female passenger exit the vehicle and flee the scene on foot.
The victim was transported to University Hospitals with severe injuries.
