Veterans Day parade returns to downtown Cleveland

The 11th annual parade is marching through the streets of downtown Cleveland this afternoon.

CLEVELAND — The 11th annual Veterans Day parade has returned to the streets of downtown Cleveland. 

The parade kicked off in front of Cleveland City Hall on Lakeside Avenue and is proceeding right to East 9th Street., right on Superior Avenue on the east side of Public Square and down Ontario Avenue. 

Organizers say Thursday's event promises to the largest Veterans Day parade in the history of Cleveland. In addition to Mayor Frank Jackson, an Army veteran, the Honorary Guest is Rear Admiral Michael J. Johnson, Commander 9th District Coast Guard. Admiral Johnson is responsible for an area that encompasses eight states, 1,500 mile international boarder and a workforce of over 6000 Coast Guard active duty and reservists, along with civilian and auxiliary men and women.

The parade's special guest is World War II veteran William (Bill) Decapite. The 97-year-old served in the Navy SeeBee's (Construction Division) from February 1943 to June 1946.
