Brunswick man arrested in theft of $2.1 million worth of rare sports cards

CLEVELAND — A Brunswick man has been arrested in connection to the theft of a shipment of rare sports cards valued over $2 million from a memorabilia convention in Strongsville, police announced Friday. 

According to a social media post from the Strongsville Police Department, Jacob Paxton, 27, was arrested Thursday and charged with a first-degree felony count of theft. 

52 of the 54 missing cards were recovered from a house on Roanoke Avenue in Cleveland. All 54 cards together are valued at $2,132,477.

The collection of 54 cards included rare Cracker Jack cards, along with high-quality Mickey Mantle and Roberto Clemente cards.

Police are still investigating the potential whereabouts of the two missing cards. Police described the two cards as follows: 

• LOT 11: 1909 T204 Ramly Walter Johnson PSA 5 Cert #90586922

• LOT 25: 1941 Play Ball #14 Ted Williams PSA 8 NM-MT Cert. #05159693

Anyone with any information about the two missing cards is asked to call Strongsville Police Detectives at 440-580-3247 and reference report #2024-000693.
