Custom wheelchair taken from Independence family

Amy Sisely and her special needs daughter Marissa are now pleading for its return.

INDEPENDENCE, Ohio — Amy Sisely is a very busy mom.

"We have Marissa, who is 20, and we have two younger ones, an 11 and a 9-year-old," she says. "They have soccer and baseball practice today."

But not Marissa. She has special needs and can only get around in her custom-fitted wheelchair. When getting ready for school this morning, Amy describes what happened.

"We put the chair in the driveway around 7 a.m. in the morning-ish," she told us. "When I went out at 7:15 to move a car, it was gone."

Someone took Marissa's chair. It wasn't near the garbage cans and this was a normal routine for the family. It's left Amy scratching her head.

"It's custom-molded to her and it's very, very heavy," she said. "One of the reasons it goes on the school bus is because we don't have a vehicle to transport it."

Amy put the word out on social media, and her plea for the return of Marissa's chair has been shared over a thousand times. She wants whoever took the chair, whether purposely or by accident, to know Marissa needs it and that it's vital for her well-being.

"She can't go to school, she essentially can't do anything," Amy explained. "She can't sit up on her own. Right now she's in the car, but she can't get out, can't walk or anything. And when we're home, essentially she'll have to stay in her bed."

If anyone happens to see a custom wheelchair that looks like this, could you please contact me or the Independence...

Police have been notified, but Amy is hoping whoever took the chair has a change of heart.

"It's a wheelchair," she said. "You have to return it. What are you going to do with it?"

If anyone sees the one-of-a-kind chair anywhere, please contact the Independence Police Department. Amy says she isn't asking for donations to replace the chair at this point, and for now, Marissa waits and Amy remains hopeful.

"I'm just praying and hoping that it just comes back."
