Great Lakes Mall reveals May 12 reopening plan: Masks not required, but recommended

Every shopper will have to follow multiple guidelines while inside the mall to help slow the spread of coronavirus.

MENTOR, Ohio — If you’ve been hoping to get some shopping done, Great Lakes Mall is preparing to reopen its doors on Tuesday, May 12 – but it comes with multiple changes that will impact every shopper.

Although the mall itself will be open, some tenants will remain closed until further notice. Guests are encouraged to call ahead to see if the store they intend to visit is actually open.

All guests will also be required to follow these guidelines:

  • Practice social distancing and stay at least six feet from other people.
  • Covering your mouth and nose with a cloth face cover is recommended.
  • Do not gather in groups.
  • Adhere to each individual tenant’s COVID-19 policies.
  • Adhere to all federal, state and local regulations, recommendations and mandates regarding COVID-19.

“Great Lakes Mall’s already rigorous disinfectant and cleaning practices will continue, many times per day, including periodically disinfecting areas most susceptible to the spread of germs,” mall officials said in a press release. “Alcohol-based hand sanitizer dispensers are located in highly trafficked areas and walkways for public use.”

The mall will be operating on the following schedule:

  • Monday – Saturday: 11 a.m. until 7 p.m.
  • Sunday: 11 a.m. until 6 p.m.

“We are inspired by the resilience of our community and look forward to safely welcoming back our guests, said Rob Dascoli General Manager at Great Lakes Mall. “We will continue to work with local, state and federal agencies to do all we can in order to contribute to the containment, treatment and prevention of COVID-19.”

Their plan follows guidance issued by Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine's "Stay Safe Ohio" initiative that allows retail to restart May 12.
