A 34-year-old man is dead following a crash on Interstate 90 eastbound in Lake County Saturday afternoon.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Painesville resident Michael R. Varga was driving his pickup truck in the left lane around 12:23 p.m. when he drove off the left side of the road and into the grassy median near Vrooman Road. The truck then went between the two bridges that go over the Grand River and plummeted 80 feet below.
Varga was pronounced dead at the scene, and officials say he was not wearing a seat belt. The exact reason for why he drove off the road remains under investigation.
The road was closed for hours as crews continued to assess the area. It has since been reopened.
