The crash happened just before 6 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 20 and Quarry Road.

Avery Susak of Amherst was driving eastbound in a 2009 Ford Focus when authorities say he tried to pass a sedan stopped in the eastbound lane on U.S. 20.

The Ford collided head-on with a 2020 3500 Dodge Ram Crew truck in the westbound lane while attempting to pass the stopped sedan.

Susak died as a result of the crash.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the Dodge went off the north side of U.S. 20 and struck multiple trees. Authorities did not indicate if the Dodge driver was hurt.

After the crash, U.S. 20 near Quarry Road remained closed for nearly four hours.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene of the crash by the Lorain County Sherriff's Office, Wellington Fire Department, Central Lorain County Emergency Medical Services, Metro Life Flight, the Ohio Department of Transporation and L and M Towing.
