Cyclist dead after being struck in Avon Lake hit-and-run, driver charged

64-year-old Sharan Carr faces several charges including OVI, hit skip, and aggravated vehicular homicide

AVON LAKE, Ohio — A 66-year old cyclist is dead after being hit on his bike by a car in a hit-and-run incident Thursday night in Avon Lake. 

64-year-old Sharan Carr of Sheffield Lake has been formally charged with operating a vehicle under the influence (OVI), plus aggravated vehicular homicide, hit skip, and reasonable control. 

Police say Carr hit the victim with her car near Lake Road just before 9:45 p.m. and did not stop. 

The victim, whose name is being withheld by Avon Lake Police pending family notification, was transported to MetroHealth Medical Center via Life Flight. Police were notified on Friday morning that the victim had died. 

After the hit-and-run incident, Carr was located and arrested by Sheffield Police on behalf of Avon Lake's department.
