Elyria Fire officials say that the fire broke out on Saturday morning at around 7:30 a.m. on Yorktown Lane. Upon arriving at the apartment, crews encountered heavy fire conditions and launched an interior attack.

"The fire was knocked down quickly, but crews had heavy smoke and fire extension into other apartment units located at 49, 51, & 55 Yorktown Lane," said Elyria Fire officials.

Damage from the fire is estimated to be around $150,000.

The Red Cross was called in for four adults and seven children as four apartments currently are uninhabitable.

The Elyria Fire Department was assisted on the scene by Eaton Township, Lorain, Carlisle Township and Sheffield Village.
