At approximately 11:50 a.m., firefighters were called to a property in the 200 block of Kansas Avenue in response to a fire that broke out in a shed.

When fire crews arrived on the scene, they found what was described as a "fully involved" fire in the shed located in the rear of the property. While firefighters attempted to control the fire, a man was found unresponsive near the front of the shed.

The Elyria Fire Department said he looked to have been suffering from "apparent thermal injuries." The victim, who has since been identified as 63-year-old Dwight McMurray, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The shed was completely destroyed in the fire. The Elyria Police Department is assisting the fire department in determining a cause.
