ELYRIA, Ohio — A house fire caused damage and injured an Elyria firefighter Monday morning.
At approximately 8:15 a.m., fire crews were called to the 100 block of Virginia Avenue in Elyria for reports of a house fire.
Elyria fire crews arrived to the residence within five minutes of the call and found a fire in a bedroom of the structure. They were able to contain the fire quickly but not before the house sustained significant heat, water and smoke damage.
One Elyria Firefighter suffered a hand injury while containing the blaze. They were treated and released from University Hospitals of Elyria.
The fire caused an estimated $10,000 in damages between structural damage and contents of the home.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Elyria Fire Department. The Red Cross is aiding the family in response to the incident.
