Suspect, SWAT officer shot during standoff in Lorain County

The SWAT officer, an Amherst police patrolman, is in critical condition at MetroHealth Medical Center.

SHEFFIELD LAKE -- Police from multiple agencies remain at a Lorain County home where an officer and a suspect were shot during a 12-hour standoff overnight Thursday.

Shortly after 12:30 a.m. Friday, police confirmed to WKYC's Will Ujek that the suspect was placed under arrest. A spokesperson for the U.S. Marshals says the suspect, identified as 39-year-old Martin Robinson, was shot several times and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

One SWAT officer, Eugene Ptacek of the Amherst Police Department, was shot as authorities tried to serve an outstanding warrant for weapons violations on Robinson at his Ferndale Avenue home. U.S. Marshals say Robinson is a former state corrections officer.

Ptacek was taken via LifeFlight to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland. His condition is listed as critical.

After the shooting, Robinson called U.S. Marshals and told them he would only surrender to them. It would ultimately take 8 more hours before the standoff finally ended.
