Lorain County volunteers help local children without beds 'sleep in heavenly peace'

There are children who don’t have warm beds to sleep in but a Lorain County organization is working to change that.

LORAIN, Ohio — It’s a sad reality.

There are children who don’t have warm beds to sleep in, but a Lorain County organization is working to change that.

Sleep In Heavenly Peace Lorain County Chapter just had their largest single delivery of more than 100 twin size beds to local families.  All of it thanks to residents and community partners who volunteer their time and services.

“Kids face enough in school the way it is, to not get a good night sleep and then have to go to school tired and struggling,” explains Lorain County Chapter President Roger Dorsey.

He says they’re trying to give these children a building block, “so they can have a space to come to that’s theirs, a lot of these kids, this is the first thing they’ve owned.”

In 18 months of service to the community, they’ve delivered more than 600 beds to families in Lorain County and there are currently 350 kids on a waiting list.

The organization needs donations of twin size mattresses, bedding, lumber, supplies and more.
