WAYNE COUNTY, OHIO, Ohio — Two teenagers are dead after a two-vehicle crash involving a dirt bike and a car in Wayne County on Tuesday.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the incident took place just after 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of Criswell Rd. and Salt Creek Rd. in Salt Creek Township.

Troopers say the crash involved a gray 2017 Chrysler Pacifica driven by a 32-year-old Fredericksburg, Ohio woman and an orange and white 2004 Honda CRF250R dirt bike operated by a 16-year-old juvenile.

Investigators say the Pacifica was headed westbound on Salt Creek Road, while the dirt bike was going northbound on Criswell Road. The driver of the Pacifica failed to yield at a stop sign and collided with the dirt bike. Both the juvenile driver and his passenger were ejected off of the dirt bike.

The 16-year-old dirtbike driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. His 15-year-old passenger was transported by South Central Fire Department to a landing zone where he was later flown by Life Flight to Akron Children’s Hospital. He later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at Akron Children’s Hospital.

The Wayne County Coroner’s Office and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office assisted on scene.

The OSHP says alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in this crash. The driver and passenger of the dirt bike were not wearing helmets at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
