Rumpke Waste & Recycling confirms trash collection delays in 5 Northeast Ohio counties; services expected to be back to normal by Monday

Several of Rumpke's trucks have been sidelined due to 'significant fuel contamination,' leaving residents across the region in flux.

COLERAIN, Ohio — Those in five Northeast Ohio counties shouldn't be surprised if their trash isn't picked up on time these next few days.

In a release shared Thursday by local communities, Rumpke Waste & Recycling confirmed a number of its trucks are currently sidelined after a "supplier error" caused "significant fuel contamination." As a result, trash collection services may be delayed in the following counties across Greater Cleveland and Akron:

  • Cuyahoga
  • Geauga
  • Medina
  • Portage
  • Summit

"We apologize for this situation," Rumpke wrote in its statement. "Please know that our team will not stop working until this issue is resolved. We greatly appreciate your assistance, patience, and business as we overcome this challenge and work to ultimately deliver the service our customers expect and deserve."

Rumpke said its crews have been working "around the clock" to get the vehicles up and running again, and on Friday acknowledged to 3News that "some areas" are still getting slower services due to the situation. However, the company expects they "will be back to our normal schedule by Monday morning."

"We would ask that anyone who has not been serviced yet, to leave their containers curbside," a spokesperson told us. "We appreciate our customers' flexibility and understanding as we resolve this issue.

Those experiencing delays will most likely see their trash sitting on the curb for at least an extra day. In the meantime, residents are also encouraged to take any trash in immediate need of disposal to any of Rumpke's area locations in Broadview Heights, Newburgh Heights, Painesville, or Seville.
