Chagrin Falls family involved in fatal PA turnpike crash

The accident closed the westbound lanes of the turnpike for approximately four hours.

BIG BEAVER TOWNSHIP, Pa-- A Chagrin Falls family was involved in a fatal wrong-way crash on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, Sunday. 

According to reports, 76-year-old William Paxton of Pittsburgh was traveling east in the westbound lanes when he crashed his Subaru Outback SUV crossover into a Nissan Pathfinder. 

The Pathfinder was driven by 36-year-old Andrew Sworn of Chagrin Falls. Neither driver survived the crash and four others were injured. 

74-year-old Kathleen Peluso, a passenger in the wrong-way vehicle, was flown to UPMC Presbyterian hospital with serious injuries.

40-year-old Jane Sworan of Chagrin Falls along with a 5-year-old daughter and  4-year-old son,who were riding in the Nissan, were taken to Mercy Health Hospital in Youngstown. There is no word on their conditions at this time.

According to police, Paxton had been driving in the wrong direction for approximately eight miles when the accident occurred.

The accident closed the westbound lanes of the turnpike for approximately four hours.
