An inmate at the Richland County Jail died Saturday after being found unresponsive.

At about 11 a.m. Saturday, an inmate notified corrections staff that something was wrong with Joseph Estill Breeze, according to a press release from the Richland County Sheriff's Office.

Correctional and medical staff administered medical care immediately and notified the Mansfield Fire Department, which responded within minutes, according to the press release. Breeze was taken to OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The Richland County Coroner’s Office was notified and an autopsy will be conducted. The cause of death is not known, according to the press release.

Breeze was incarcerated in the Richland County Jail on Aug. 27 on a felony warrant for the charge of probation violation out of the Richland County Common Pleas Court.

In April, Breeze listed his age as 37 and his occupation as masonry when he filed for a marriage license in Richland County, according to previous News Journal reports.

The sheriff’s major crimes unit is investigating the inmate’s death.
