Police called to Wickliffe roller rink after fights break out

Management blames the incident on 'a few bad apples'.

WICKLIFFE, Ohio — There were intense moments Saturday night at “United Skates of America” in Wickliffe after several fistfights broke out.

Manager Ann-Marie Vaykin believes a social media post promoting her rink led to a large turnout.

Though she said she turned many teens away, others started fighting around 10:30 p.m.

Policed called it “a large-scale disturbance.”

Video on social media shows them attempt to calm what appears to dozens of screaming teenagers. At one point, a display case tips over.

Montez Johnson, 19, captured footage and said he went to the rink regularly.

“Pepper spray accidentally hit me,” he said. “They need to try to come up with a plan and just try to do something about it so all that stuff don’t happen again.”

This weekend was supposed to be a shining moment for the rink, which had recently undergone renovations. Vaykin said she had five officers on hand.

Police tell Channel 3 News that they are investigating, but have not yet revealed whether they made any arrests.

Vaykin says she and her staff will be meeting Monday to decide what to do next.
