64-year-old man dies following fatal Stark County crash

Ohio State Highway Patrol officials say that 64-year-old Eric Mallett wasn't wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

NORTH CANTON, Ohio — An investigation is underway after a fatal crash in Stark County.

Ohio State Highway Patrol officials say that the crash happened on Friday, Feb. 2, at around 11:53 p.m. on State Route 212 near Bardell Avenue SW in Bethlehem Township. 

A 2001 Chevrolet Impala was driving westbound on State Route 212 when the driver traveled left of the center while negotiating a curve. The driver overcorrected and traveled off the right side of the road, striking a tree. 

The Stark County Coroner's Office pronounced 64-year-old Eric Mallett dead at the scene. 

Erie Valley Fire and EMS, Patriot’s Towing and the Stark County Coroner’s Office were on scene to assist.

Officials say that Mallet was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. 

At this time, the crash remains under investigation.
